As a native of Hudson, New Hampshire, Derek Griffith has been competing behind the wheel of a race car since the age of 12. He became a quick study of some of his local short-tracks in New England -- including Hudson Speedway and Star Speedway -- capturing checkered flags at both tracks. His sharp driving ability has helped him move up through the racing ladder quickly, from local division racing to touring series action, and over the last two years, some racing higher-up in the sport.
The last six years specifically has been where Griffith has shown to be the dominant force. He's captured two championships at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway, made his ARCA Racing Series debut and multiple additional starts, and also made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut for Kyle Busch Motorsports, while winning multiple Super Late Model races along the way. Griffith competed in multiple NASCAR Xfinity Series races for Sam Hunt Racing during the 2022 season, scoring a best finish of 15th. He competes for his family team in Super Late Model events, winning often.
----------------------------------
Griffith began his career in the Thunder Lights Division racing at Hudson. He claimed eight feature wins and the Rookie of the Year, and after just one year, he moved to the Road Runner division and scored two victories. A year later, he moved up to the Super Late Model ranks, won two races, and finished fifth in the final point standings after missing four races. Ever since then, he's been on top of his game in the Super Late Models.
Griffith competed with the Granite State Pro Stock Series for many years, where he won countless events, including his first win and the series championship in the same year in 2015. In 2017, Griffith decided to make the move to the Pro All Star Series, where he still finds his home today. In that same year, Griffith won the $10,000 to win US Pro Stock Nationals at Seekonk Speedway in Massachusetts.
In 2018, he earned the right to become part of the Alan Kulwicki Driver Development program -- posting a successful season including winning the Pro All Star Series National Championship and finishing fourth in the PASS North points. A year later, in 2019, he returned to the Kulwicki Program and won at New Smyrna Speedway's World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, while also capturing multiple PASS wins.
In 2020, Griffith competed in eight ARCA Menards Series races for Chad Bryant Racing, scoring two top-five finishes. In that same year, he also made his ARCA Menards Series East debut at New Smyrna Speedway for Bryant, leading 144 laps before a late pit-road penalty forced him to the back of the field. On that day, Griffith showed he had what he needed to get the job done. In 2021, he ran two ARCA races for Venturini Motorsports, finishing a best of fifth.
During his Camping World Truck Series debut, which came without the benefit of any practice laps due to NASCAR's new policies surrounding COVID-19 at the time, Griffith received damage from an early incident and finished 26th. Griffith is also a multiple-time competitor in the Snowball Derby, Oxford 250, All-American 400 and more of the top short-track races in the United States.
